RESEARCH

Her research focuses on five main domains:

• Cognitive Research on Translation and Pedagogy: She has explored the function of mind and its hidden complexities in connection with translating in order to develop methodologies mainly based on functional - cognitive approaches and socioconstructivist theories of learning that may help students to improve their metacognition and procedural knowledge when translating.  She is interested in every topic related with research on students’ translation processes and mind, especially research on qualitative empirical methods, cognitive linguistics and evaluation. Her initial translation teaching methodology can be found in her thesis:  Principios teóricos y metodológicos para la Didáctica de la traducción directa. Un modelo cognitivo-funcional, and in other publications such as  "Aciertos y desaciertos en la didáctica de la traducción" (Vasos comunicantes: revista de ACE traductores, nº 35, 2006), "Evaluating students' translation process in specialised translation: Translation commentary" (JoSTrans–The Journal of Specialised Translation, 2007), "Der translatoerische Kommentar als Evaluationsmodell der studentischen Überzetzungsprozesse" (Lebende Sprachen, vol. 53, nº. 1, 2008), and "Diseño de un cuestionario en el aula para evaluar cambios en la metacognición de los estudiantes sobre la traducción mediante el aprendizaje corregulado" (in Empiricism and analytical tools for 21 century applied linguistics: selected papers from the XXIX International Conference of the Spanish Association of Applied Linguistics (AESLA), 2012).

• Conceptual Problems in Translation Theory (translatology): She has explored and clarified some issues concerning conceptual problems that are intrinsic in the theoretical metadiscourse of contemporary functionalist Translatology (eg. the concepts of ‘function’, ‘intention’ or ‘skopos’ among others). Some of the most relevant publications are: "La teoría del escopo y la necesidad de desconstruir su discurso científico" (in Últimas corrientes teóricas en los estudios de traducción y sus aplicaciones/ coord. by Anne Barr, Jesús Torres del Rey, María del Rosario Martín Ruano, 2001), "Confusiones, aclaraciones y propuesta metodológica para el análisis de los conceptos funcionalistas de 'función' y 'skopos' en la práctica de la traducción" (Sendebar, 2006), and "Una aproximación cognitiva a algunos estadios mentales de la "función textual" en los modelos traductológicos funcionalistas" (in 25 años de lingüística en España [Recurso electrónico]: hitos y retos = 25 years os applied linguistics in Spain: milestones and challenges / coord. by Rafael Monroy Casas, Aquilino Sánchez Pérez, 2008).

• Text Linguistics, Pragmatics, and Discourse Analysis: She is interested in incorporating and reviewing methods of other disciplines such as text linguistics, pragmatics, textual analysis and text production for the improvement of translation and interpreting teaching. Some of the articles where she explores these intersections are "Estrategias metodológicas para analizar y producir la pragmática textual: el modelo funcional de Hulst aplicado a la traducción (1995)" (in Actas del II Congreso Internacional AIETI 2005. Formación, investigación y profesión / coord. by María Luisa Romana García, 2005), or "Comparando la informatividad textual desde el paradigma traductológico del funcionalismo" (Estudios de traducción, nº. 1, 2011).

• Cognitive Sciences and Cognitive Linguistics: She is interested in every topic about the description of the mind from a cognitive point of view to better understand the students’ translation process. She is now working on Fauconnier’s and Turner’s blending theory for the understanding of how the mind interacts with translation. Her application of cognitive theoretical approaches are "Aprendiendo a agudizar la percepción para la comprensión y traducción de referentes culturales gastronómicos alemanes: un enfoque cognitivo en el aula" (in En las vertientes de la traducción e interpretación del/al alemán / Silvia Roiss (ed.), 2011), and "Entendiendo la semántica desde otra perspectiva: aportaciones cognitivas para la didáctica de la traducción" (in Estudios de traducción [Recurso electrónico]: problemas y perpectivas / coord. by Sonia Bravo Utrera, Rosario García López, 2006).

• Literary Translation Teaching: She is particularly interested in the Didactics of Literary Translation. She has been closely working on this topic with the research group of The University of Salamanca TRADLIT since 2011. Publications on this topic are "La didáctica de la traducción literaria: Estado de la cuestión/The teaching of literary translation: An overview" (TESI, 2012), and "Consideraciones metodológicas cualitativas para la didáctica de la traducción literaria" (Futhark: revista de investigación y cultura, nº. 9, 2014).
